No. Most patients in Texas start without one. How direct access works

Do I need a referral to come to Direct PT?
Front desk
No, you do not. We offer a 30-day direct access without a referral.

Texas direct access lets a licensed physical therapist evaluate and treat you for a limited period without a physician referral; Medicare and some insurance plans still require a plan of care signed by a physician for coverage. We confirm what applies to you before your first visit.

Why patients come here

Care that treats the person, not just the diagnosis.

Direct PT of Huntsville was built around a simple idea: a clinician who is actually watching you move will find things a crowded gym floor misses. Caseloads stay small — no more than two patients per clinician at a time — every plan is built around a goal you named, and you leave understanding exactly what is happening and why.

01

Personalized treatment

A full evaluation drives the plan. Nothing is copied from a template, and the plan changes the day your body does.

02

Patient education

You leave able to explain your condition, your program, and what a good response looks like. That is most of the outcome.

03

Functional recovery

Goals are specific and testable: stairs without the rail, a full shift, a return to the trail. We measure against those.

04

Time and cost respected

Fewer, fuller visits. Benefits verified up front, a written estimate before treatment, and no surprise billing.

Hands-on care

Manual therapy, movement coaching, and progressive loading — applied to what your evaluation actually found.

Transcript Why the foot and ankle matter
Cassie Fry, PTA
And there’s a lot of motion that happens. There’s muscles that have to keep it stable. There’s ligaments underneath that help it move into that toe-off. There’s just amazing architecture overall with the ankle, foot and physical therapy…

Meet the team

Small team. Everyone knows your plan.

A licensed physical therapist sets your plan of care. Two licensed physical therapist assistants carry it out. Two people at the front desk make the insurance and scheduling side painless. Caseloads stay small — never more than two patients per clinician at a time.

Meet the whole team

Conditions treated

Start with the problem you actually have.

Most patients arrive describing a symptom, not a diagnosis. These pages start where you are — what it feels like, what tends to cause it, and what treatment looks like.

Why Direct PT

Time-efficient. Cost-effective. Genuinely personal.

The clinic model exists to protect three things: your therapist's attention, your understanding of your own condition, and your time.

  • Small caseloads — no more than two patients per clinician at a time
  • A consistent care team who knows your plan — nothing gets re-explained
  • Benefits verified and a written cost estimate before treatment starts
  • Objective retesting, so progress is measured rather than assumed
  • A home program written for your equipment and your schedule
  • Direct access means most patients start without waiting on a referral

Common questions

Answers before you book.

Referrals, cost, timelines, and what actually happens at a first visit.

Yes, for up to 30 consecutive calendar days, once our Doctor of Physical Therapy has completed your evaluation and plan of care. If your recovery needs longer than that, you will need an order from your doctor to continue. Some insurance plans also require a physician referral regardless, and we check that before your first visit.

Most plans of care run 6 to 12 visits over 4 to 8 weeks. Acute problems often resolve faster; post-surgical rehab and long-standing pain usually run longer. You get an estimated range after your evaluation, and objective retesting confirms whether you are tracking to it.

We accept Medicare and Medicare Supplement plans, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Blue Cross Medicare Advantage and Humana. We also see patients using PPO out-of-network benefits, and self-pay patients with packages available. We verify your benefits before your first visit and give you a clear cost estimate up front. Not sure about your plan? Call (936) 439-4770 and Elisa at our front desk will check your coverage, including out-of-network benefits.

Your first visit, the evaluation, is one-on-one and takes about 30 minutes. Treatment sessions after that usually run 45 to 60 minutes.
