Treatment approach

How dry needling fits into your care

Dry needling is never the whole plan. It sits inside a plan of care set by our Doctor of Physical Therapy after a full evaluation.

  1. 01

    Evaluation first

Our Doctor of Physical Therapy evaluates you and decides whether dry needling is suitable for you at all.

  2. 02

Part of the plan of care

If it fits, dry needling is written into your plan of care as one tool among the others in your treatment.

  3. 03

    Performed by the physical therapist

Dry needling is performed only by Dr. Sean Chen, PT, DPT, our licensed physical therapist.

Questions

Dry Needling — common questions

Only our licensed physical therapist, Dr. Hsuan "Sean" Chen, PT, DPT. Physical therapist assistants do not perform dry needling.

No. Dry needling is offered as one tool within a physical therapy plan of care, after an evaluation. It is not a standalone service.

That is decided at your evaluation. It may be used as part of treatment for muscle tension, pain and movement problems, depending on what the evaluation finds.

Not to get started. Texas direct access lets you be treated for up to 30 consecutive calendar days without one, once our Doctor of Physical Therapy has completed your evaluation and plan of care. If we expect your recovery to need more than 30 days, we request your doctor’s order right after your evaluation, so your care is not delayed when the 30 days end. Some insurance plans also require a physician referral regardless, and we check that before your first visit.
